Who is Lisa Pac?
Lisa Pac is a self conscious girl who needed a stage name to speak up.
How do you deal with your visual concept on social media?
I really try to make my Instagram as real as possible, I want to be that person you feel like you can talk to, or relate. I really got into fashion recently so obviously I’m trying to stand out and create my own style, visually. You tell me if that worked out well.
What are the biggest challenges you face as an up and coming artist in the digital age?
Staying present. Not only on the screen (Instagram, Facebook etc.) but also in real life. Finding the right balance between sharing valuable content on social media, giving my audience a glimpse of what my life looks like, and, actually being in the moment, enjoying my time off, without thinking about how I come across. I think having the urge of constantly having to share content to stay in people’s heads, is something very challenging, but necessary and a very powerful tool.
Could you sum up some personal milestones in your artist development?
One of my recently achieved milestones, was being played on the radio. I never thought “Helium” would be such a success and I am so happy about it.
Do you have some insights on conducting an efficient music production?
When you start a new track – what are the first steps? Mood. I think about what I want to talk about and the feeling it gives me. Usually I just start with some simple chords playing the piano or guitar and then just go from there. I like starting a track with drums and a simple bass line as well. It gives me the freedom to go anywhere I want.
How do you feel about the evolution of digital music streaming services?
I am fan. People all around the world are able to hear / stream my music, I think it’s a big step forward. Unfortunately that means that fewer people are actually buying music, in terms of purchasing a single or an album.
Instagram starts to remove likes in more and more countries. How do you feel about that trend?
I didn’t know about that, but I guess the guidelines have improved a lot, in a good kinda way!
Does Lisa Pac have a songwriting routine or ritual?
No, always depends on my mood and where I am. It also depends on who I am writing for. If it’s a song for someone else, it’s more like “work” and I’m trying to get the job done as professional and quickly as possible. If it’s for myself I am obviously more attached to it, so get really anal about everything.
What are some of your favourite music videos and why?
I love Beyoncé’s lemonade music videos. Everything’s lines up perfectly, the colours are beautiful and the story board is amazing. I also really liked her video to 11/7. It made me laugh. Lou Asril’s “Friek” video is incredible, love everything about it, if you haven’t seen it go watch it!
Do you have some insights on running a smoothe live show?
Rehearsing! And knowing your set! I’m relaxed when I am well prepared. Also, one thing I have to remind myself a lot, is really get into the mood of every song, reminding yourself why I wrote it, who I wrote it for, to be able to perform it with the right mind set.
What are the most important elements of a great pop song? A catchy hook! And lyrics everyone can relate to.
Are you on TikTok?
I think it’s quite important, especially for the younger audience, they’re using it so much!
Is there a prominent musician currently killing it visually wise? Tell us how!
Jessie Reyez! She’s so humble and so real. She seems like she doesn’t give AF, and just stays true to herself and her music. Also 070 Shake, she doesn’t put out that much, but once she does she’s killing it.
Name 3 major mistakes you made and other musicians could learn from.
Being impatient and worrying too much. Being an artist isn’t easy, you work hard and nobody really sees it because you’re spending all your days & nights in the studio. It took me (literally) ages to find out what I wanted to sound like. Also don’t fixate too much on it. Go out, have fun, live stories you can later tell in your songs, instead of forcing it. It should all come naturally. Don’t try to be like an artist you admire, be and write whatever gives YOU goosebumps.
How would you describe the perfect form of musical collaboration?
The perfect collaboration should be with an artist I connect on every level. She/He should be able to teach me new perspectives and trigger something I haven’t felt before.
