Trying to identify the ideal music video snippet can be challenging.
You want to transmit the strength of a video, without revealing too much about the big picture. Having a team of feed-backers can be helpful when picking the perfect snippet. Many D.I.Y. Musicians are flying solo on this kind of decision though.
To help you out, we collected some attributes a great video snippet should contain.
Grasp the right moment
How do you identify the perfect, most representative moment?
Basically, it should shed light on the core feature of the video. This can be a great shot, a strong moment or picture that really builds a strong case for your music.
It can also be a cliff-hanger moment, working its way into a climatic instance.
Be spoiler-free
Even though the temptation is high, try to keep the video spoiler-free.
This means leaving out the strongest element of a video, probably also the most expressive frame. By keeping the strongest element hidden, you maintain a moment of surprise.
This is essential when aiming for a compelling, continuously entertaining music video experience.
Have an adaptable format
A video that ONLY works on one platform, isn’t really in line with the strategy of multi-platform content spreading.
Try reading up on which formats work best on various platforms. Also talk to your film-professionals about the distributive plans.
This can have a great effect on the way the video is shot, cut and edited. Furthermore it will save you loads of time when implementing the video afterwards.
Ignite interest without sound
The reality of scrolling through timelines is: Either you’re already engaged in an artist, and then you click on “sound on” or you have to be thrilled by what you see.
Pick a moment within the video that can even work without sound. This imagery should have the potential of luring your audience into the whole context – even if they’re stuck in a loud environment and surround by urban turmoil.
Transport vital infos
Having a clean, non-informative video and transporting essential info via the text-body of the posting is absolutely fine. But I can highly recommend adding some important information about your release or future live shows directly into the video.
Chances are high that your original text-body is hidden and overlooked if your video gets shared. So – don’t forget to plan in some extra video AND editing time for vital info!
