We had the chance to catch up with LoFi producer & 3x gold RIAA certified songwriter Snoozegod. Find out what he had to say about the importance of collaborating, his favorite plugins and his latest single The Road Not Taken.
You’ve just released your new single “The Road Not Taken”. Can you give the story of how the track came to life?
The Road Not Taken single is a song with my favorite producer boxboys. We made it two songs in one. He did the first half of it, i did the second half it’s the lead single off my Album “The Road Not Taken” Dropping Feb 17th. Inspired by the poem by Robert Frost, My friend Val Mercado said it helped her so I made a project around that idea. So before the second song starts you hear her voice explaining what she looks for in a partner.
You also work as a producer and songwriter for other people. How is your approach different there compared to working on your own material?
I’ve really only worked with Mike Posner & Blackbear. We made Mansionz in 2016 and kind of just lived together for 2 weeks just vibing out. Really no approach, just living life. My own stuff is more about me and healing people through the music.
Could you sum up some personal milestones in your artist development?
Yeah I would say getting on a Lofi playlist on Spotify and New Music Friday. Being the only Lo-fi beat on it was insane to me. Also, just being able to grow my audience over the years.
Name your top 3 plugins you can’t live without. Explain why you think they’re awesome!
Haha well mine have custom names so i can’t really explain it. But i like Pro-Q 3 by FabFilter, CLA-2A by Waves, Delay Tape-201 by Arturia.
What’s your stance on the interplay between AI and music production in the coming years?
I really don’t know what to say about that. Everything is going digital like it’s gonna be a crazy future. I don’t know if I’m ready.
What do you enjoy the most when collaborating with other musicians?
Honestly just being able to connect with other people and they think I make something collab worthy for. You never know what song could be your break out song. Like it’s cool to pop off on your own but if you do it with a collaborator you can change so many people’s lives.
How important are data insights for your (strategic) decisions?
Honestly numbers don’t matter because they can be padded. I really just release songs and leave it up to the people. some songs I thought would do really good didn’t. Then ones I never thought would work are peoples favorites. So it’s up to the people.
What’s next for Snoozegod?
What’s next is my Lo-fi Album Dropping Feb 17th “The Road Not Taken” with my friend Lomo on the cover and then im dropping an album with my homie Relo called Surfclub. Just a bunch of slaps for the people! The rest is gonna be history. I can’t really predict it.
