He is a one-man show, a freak and an artist. His music is 100% his own. From concept to mastering. We had to chance to interview the Austrian EDM Sensation Rene Rodrigezz:
Your song “Stand My Ground” found success on an international level! How did you connect with the singer Lova?
Yes, thanks, “Stand my Ground” performed very well and is still running fine! As this song was the follow-up of “Rude”, where Lova also got her voice on, it was just a question of time to do a second song together. She is based in Denmark and we met years ago at a vocal agency in the UK.
What are the biggest challenges you face as an artist in the digital age?
Well, as the digital world is changing so fast it’s hard to say where it goes. Basically, I see two sides. On the one side it has never been so easy to consume & discover music. Shazam a track you hear anywhere, listen to it on Spotify, fall in love with the artist and visit his next gig in your region. On the other side producing music has become much easier than it was some years ago. Imagine that everyday around 40,000 tracks are released on Spotify. Every producer battles with millions of other acts which are trying to achieve the same thing. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, good, creative and hard work will pay off.
Which impact does the corona virus have on your career currently?
To be honest, before Corona I had a lot of big shows and massive slots fixed, but you know the situation. Next year will be amazing 🙂
Where do you see EDM in 5 years from now?
Ohhh good question! This one is the main question in our lives! Well, I think I can’t answer that in one sentence. It’s a process over the next years which is always changing. But as always, “a good song is a good song”, in whichever genre.
When you start a new track – what are the first steps?
Well, it depends. Mostly I have an idea on my mind and then I start creating the basic elements by try out some synths and sounds. Whenever I get some vocals to work with, I build some melodies around that as a first step. Or sometimes you open a “finished” track and change everything again haha.
Name your top 3 plug ins and tell us why!
Utility (Ableton) – It’s so easy and useful
SSL G-Comp – I use that on all my Masters
Little Alter Boy (Soundtoys) – It’s magic on Vocals
What do you think are the most important factors to find success, as an upcoming producer in electronic music?
First of all, the key to be successful in any business on the long is be a nice guy, do what you love and listen to your heart!”
What’s next for Rene Rodrigezz?
So much songs are coming very soon in some different genres. From the craziest shit to the very smooth poppy vibe! Corona times make me really creative and relaxed. I’m ready for next level 😉
Little spoiler: On July 31st I’m going to release a new song on Skink Records (Label of Showtek). That one is going to be crazy!
