We had the chance to catch up with Producer & DJ Audioiko. Find out what the avid ForTunes user had to say about the importance of data, building an audience, personal milestones and much more.
Over the years you’ve managed to build an impressive audience within the electronic music sphere. How did you go about that?
Impressive even for me! I didn’t have a special recipe for it..But I think trying to make music different from what’s of currently trending helped me a lot..for example my last successful remix got released in 2018, but it took two hears to start get viral. Same goes for my my last release with Sony. I produced it in 2020 and got released in 2022.If I would go with what’s currently trending this wouldn’t work.
What are the biggest challenges you face as an up and coming producer in 2022?
I personally think that the biggest challenge is to sign songs with good labels which really understand someone’s vision.. It can be pretty hard when you’re trying to build your style and sounds.
Could you sum up some personal milestones in your artist development?
I think for all artists a personal milestone would be financial freedom. I can focus 100% on what I love, which is creating music.
When you start a new track – what are the first steps?
I don’t have a first step, it always depends on what’s on my mind at that moment. Could be a bassline, lyrics, a melody, drums I prefer to let it flow freely. Sometimes I record my ideas on my cell phone and then go to the studio.
How important are data insights for your (strategic) decisions?
for me it’s everything. I use a lot of the data to make decisions. I like to know where people are listening and focus on building a fanbase around that area locations and give them more of what they want.
What’s next for AUDIOIKO?
I think the next step for Audioiko is to look for a team which can help to further grow the project (managers, booking managers, marketing team). Currently I feel I can’t do it all by myself anymore.
