Tate Tucker is a genre bending rap artist from sunny Los Angeles. He hates shirts, loves beaches, and seeks to redefine pop music. We had the chance to catch up with the him for a quick q&a:
How do you deal with the art of bridging the gap between rapping and singing in your songs?
I’ve spent most of my life navigating my voice and its iterations, and I wouldn’t consider there to be any gap that needs bridging. I focus more on the space between my vocals than anything.
What are the biggest challenges you face as an up and coming artist in the digital age?
Standing out in a saturated market. Staying consistent — when I highly value only putting out quality content and don’t have extravagant budgets.
What was the best music video experience you ever had?
Flying to Bali, Indonesia for my “Breezy” music video. It was transformative.
Could you sum up some personal milestones in your artist development?
What does a producer need to bring to the table in order to spark your interest?
How important are data insights for your (strategic) decisions?
Highly. I used to neglect my streaming data and put it off as something I would do “when my music got to the next level.” But recently, after failing to meet my own personal milestones on my last release, I became increasingly fascinated with data. Who was listening to me? Which songs? Why? Were they finding me through tastemakers/other influencer intermediaries? Maybe there are similarities in the songs that perform best that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. It’s powerful, sometimes just hard to know what to look for.
What’s next for Tate Tucker?
I have some really cool things in the works for 2021. A new EP soon. A lot of new music, new videos, new merch, new endeavours, just A LOT OF NEW from TT. But truly, I never know. So many of the best things that have ever happened to me were unexpected.
